Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)
TMS is an innovative approach to mental health that uses magnetic pulses to help you feel better.
TMS is an FDA-approved procedure that directs magnetic beams to modulate your brain’s electrical activity in order to alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. TMS is often done when other depression treatments have proven to be ineffective or intolerable. TMS is also used for PTSD, OCD, substance abuse, smoking cessation, bipolar depression, and many other mental health disorders.
TMS treatment involves delivering repetitive magnetic pulses to the brain on multiple consecutive days. The exact protocol and schedule of TMS will be determined by a physician.
The side effects of TMS are generally mild and improve shortly after a session or decrease over time with additional sessions. Side effects may include: headache, scalp discomfort, tingling, and lightheadedness.
